Training in the Use of Tools to Support Open Scientific Research

An overview of training practices in the use of research support tools on 26 websites of foreign universities is presented. It is shown that training materials are provided mainly by university libraries, are placed in different sections of the website, and are not always grouped. Only one-third of universities reviewed offer comprehensive training programs that introduce the principles, goals, and advantages of open research, as well as recommending it and showing how to use various tools and services at all stages of the life cycle of scientific development. The results of this work formed the basis of a comprehensive system for training researchers in the practice of applying the principles of open science, developed at the State Public Scientific and Technical Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
