Abstract

This paper explores the impact of artificial general intelligence (AGI) on the information professions, and analyzes the current challenges, necessary adaptations and future implications. Through literature review, case studies and analysis of emerging trends, this paper explores how AGI redefines core competencies, roles and educational requirements in this field. It highlights that information professionals need to develop new skill sets, including AGI literacy, ethical reasoning and human-AGI collaboration abilities. What’s more, this paper also emphasizes the importance of updating education curricula and continuous professional development to meet the needs of an AGI-driven information environment. The paper concludes by presenting potential future scenarios and their implications for the information profession, underscoring the need to balance technological advancement with ethical considerations and human-centric values.
