Abstract <p>This article describes an experiment to study measures to combat <i>Heracleum sosnowskyi</i> Manden. The introduction offers a historical overview of the study of <i>Heracleum sosnowskyi</i>, the basis for its use in agriculture, and impacts of the large-scale spread of <i>Heracleum sosnowskyi</i> as an invasive species in the territory of modern day Russia. Using the historical research method, the authors propose a hypothesis about the causes of the invasive spread of <i>Heracleum sosnowskyi</i> in the Russian Federation. The article presents a brief analysis of the methods of combating <i>Heracleum sosnowskyi</i> Manden and makes an ecological assessment of various approaches using a comparative research method. Specifically, it reports an analysis of weed infestation data and explores soil and climatic indicators of the first growing season of the field experiment. The sampling employs the morphological method and method of soil-regime observations. As a result of the experiment, a large array of data are obtained, thus providing a basis for a statistically reliable agrochemical analysis of soils and weed infestation of plots, as well as economic assessment of control measures, altogether amounting to a numerical-statistical research method.</p>
