An Assessment of the Effectiveness of Using Calcium Peroxide to Purify Landfill Leachate from Contaminants

Abstract
The effectiveness of using calcium peroxide (CP) to purify landfill leachate from organic and inorganic contamination has been studied under laboratory conditions using samples from a landfill as an example. The degree of purification is assessed depending on the size of the reagent added at CP/leachate ratios of 1/100, 1/50, 1/20, and 1/10 and the duration of its contact with the leachate from 1 to 3 days. The data we obtained indicate an improvement in the quality of wastewater as a result of treatment with calcium peroxide: a decrease in the concentration of heavy metals, inorganic anions, COD, etc. The results of the study support the prospects of using CP at the initial stage of cleaning of landfill leachate.
