Ground-Based Astrometry in the Post-Gaia Era

The completion of observations of the Gaia spacecraft and the expected release of final catalogs in 5 years in no way close the prospects for ground-based astrometric observations. The extension of the future GCRF to weaker objects, the discovery and correction of the orbits of Solar System bodies that, due to brightness or kinematics, turned out to be inconvenient for observations by Gaia means, the study and even the discovery of double stars and stars with large proper motions—this is not a complete list of promising directions for ground-based astrometric observations. Separately, it is worth highlighting the tasks of linking the Gaia system with new versions of ICRF, the development of future space astrometric projects, as well as the control of near-Earth space.
