Abstract <p>This article is devoted to the optimisation of the bound state lifetime in an Otto-configuration coupler. As a result of optimising the initial configuration, the bound state lifetime was increased from 943 fs to 18 367 fs. The influence of parameters such as layer thicknesses, refractive indices, the number of bilayers in the photonic crystal, and the incidence angle of incidence on the bound state lifetime was investigated. The obtained results demonstrate the considerable potential of layered structures based on Bloch surface waves for applications in integrated nanophotonics.</p>
