Abstract <p>The possibilities to refine ideas about the meaning of the term “promising methods and technologies of artificial intelligence” (AI) are discussed. The proposed version of this interpretation is based on a phenomenological refinement of ideas about human natural intelligence (NI), as well as the current possibilities of simulating certain NI abilities with computer tools. Argumentation of the prospects of specific AI methods and technologies is based on their ability to overcome a particular relevant barrier to the development of AI methods and technologies. Examples of such barriers are considered, in addition to the relevant AI methods and technologies that have made it possible to overcome them. Some possibilities and prospects of using AI methods and technologies in the tasks of maintaining situational awareness of decision makers are discussed.</p>
