<p>The study aims to optimize the surface of locally made corn mill plates using a plant (Birsana) extract to inhibit corrosion and enhance toughness. Most locally made corn mill plates used in Ghana, with 95% cast iron, wear out three to four times faster than the durable but costly imported alternatives. Microstructural, chemical, hardness, and corrosion tests were conducted on treated and untreated samples, with imported plates serving as a control.
