3D tomographic study of the collapse of Eucalyptus nitens wood derived from drying process
摘要
The Eucalyptus nitens species is native to Australia, and due to its rapid growth and adaptability to different sites, it has been used in plantations to generate raw material for the paper and particleboard industry. However, it is gradually considered an option for obtaining sawn wood. Unfortunately, deformations, cracks, and collapses are expected during the drying of those kind of woods. These defects can cause a decrease in the mechanical strength of the wood and limit its applications for specific uses. Therefore, it is essential to study these defects for a better understanding of these materials. X-ray computed microtomography (µCT) is a non-destructive technique for the analysis of 3D structures. This technique provides quantitative volume data and allows for individual separation and analysis of structural elements. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to analyze the microstructure of collapsed wood using µCT.
