Microstructure impact of CNT addition to 304 stainless steels robotic GMAW welds
摘要
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are a configuration with nanoscopic levels of carbon atoms. They are hexagonal shaped like meshes that establish a cylindrical structure that resembles a tube, to achieve the cylindrical shape, they are enveloped by rolling. Each nanotube has a diameter of approximately 0.6–1.8 nm and a length of up to one millimeter. The CNTs are very promising for technological advances, mainly due to their properties, some of which are electrical, good thermal stability, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. The advantages are the ability to modify its properties through its configuration, thus adapting to the industry’s needs. In this study, a robotic lap joint welding through Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of 304 stainless steel (304 SS) plates was used with the addition of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to evaluate their microstructural properties and mechanical performance in the new joint.
