Facile synthesis of Au nanorods in PVF2 non-aqueous solution with tailored absorption in near-infrared region

Gold nanorods (Au-NRs) with absorbance in the near-Infrared (IR) region have received extensive attention owing to their extremely attractive applications in plasmon-enhanced spectroscopy, biomedical technologies, and optoelectronic devices. In this article, we choose a simple in situ chemical reduction method to prepare Au-NRs in form of nanofluid by using Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF2) as a stabilizing agent/template to build up the one-dimensional (1D) Au-nanostructures. Here, optical absorption spectrum of an Au-PVF2 NF has showed an intense optical absorption, in the range 280–1000 nm, in three well-separated band groups at 317 nm, 535 nm, and 800 nm. The last two bands correspond to transverse (T) and longitudinal (L) modes of surface plasmon absorption in the Au-NRs, and corresponding images were shown in FESEM and HRTEM data. A model structure has been described to explore the stabilization mechanism of Au-NPs with the bonded surface layer of PVF2 molecules.
