Experimental evidence and analysis of memory in liquid crystal materials
摘要
In the present work, three thermotropic liquid crystal materials comprising of 4—butyl benzoic acid and various alkyloxy benzoic acids are prepared. All these three mesogens exhibit nematic phase. The presence of memory effect can be envisaged through hysteresis loop obtained with a setup comprising of conducting transparent glass cell with Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) acting as electrodes and the mesogen filled inside through capillary action. The dielectric hysteresis loop results when the set-up is subjected to an electric field at a temperature in the thermal span of nematic phase. From the experimental data, read and write processes has been envisaged and the corresponding time is evaluated. In addition, the storage capacity of the mesogens is quantitatively calculated using image processing techniques in MATLABR2022B.
