EIS study of Mimosa tenuiflora nanocontainers in a defective epoxy resin for the protection of low-carbon steel in a saline media

In this work, the addition of nanocontainers made up with ZnO, the extract of the Mimosa tenuiflora, and a complex of tannic acid-iron is evaluated when added in several concentrations to an epoxy resin. Scanning Electron Microscopy images and Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy analysis are presented to observe the morphology and corroborate the elemental composition of the nanocontainers. Furthermore, steel samples with the coating supplemented are exposed in a saline solution (NaCl 3.5% w/w) and evaluated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. Then, an equivalent circuit analysis is carried out in order to propose a protection mechanism of these nanocontainers.
