Expandable loss of circulation material based on magnesium oxychloride cement
摘要
Lost circulation during drilling contributes to substantial non-productive time (NPT) during the construction of oil and gas wells. Despite the inherently fast-setting nature of Sorel cement, we have successfully delayed the setting and designed two distinct lost circulation settable fluid (LCSF) systems for a broad temperature range of 70–220°F, enabling the effective treatment of major losses. This was accomplished through the strategic selection of MgO grades and the precise use of set retarders. These LCSF systems expand through in situ nitrogen gas generation when exposed to temperatures above 120°F, allowing them to fill natural and induced voids effectively.
