Innovations in dermocosmetics: Carbon Dot applications on human skin
摘要
Carbon dots (CDs) exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and UV-absorbing properties, supporting their use in topical formulations. This prospective review examines the potential of CDs as multifunctional, eco-friendly ingredients in skincare, particularly in addressing issues like acne, photoaging, and hyperpigmentation. The discussion includes recent advances in green synthesis techniques and patent analysis, identifying China as a leader in innovation with 36 filings from top universities. Despite growing interest, significant gaps remain, regarding long-term safety, formulation stability, and regulatory frameworks. Ultimately, the review positions CDs as innovative agents that can meet the skincare industry's demand for effective and sustainable solutions.
