<p>To develop TiAlCrN system coatings with excellent properties, in this work, the effects of Si/Y doping on the surface properties and oxidation resistance of coatings were investigated. The results showed that the 2.5-at.% Si-doped coating exhibited the highest surface hardness, while the Si/Y co-doped coating had the strongest anti-wear and high-temperature oxidation resistance. Moreover, the synergistic antioxidation mechanism of oxide component and structure refinement was also discussed. This study could provide theoretical guidance for the application of TiAlCr series hard coatings on cutting tools.</p> Graphical abstract <p></p>
