Correlation of fractographic dimple geometry with microstructural and mechanical properties of an ultrahigh-strength steel

Abstract
The quantitative measurements of two-dimensional micro/nano-layered dimples’ geometry on the series of published tensile fractographs of ultra-high-strength low-carbon martensitic steels differentially treated in galvanizing lines have been done and correlated with its corresponding microstructural entities and tensile properties as a function of tempering parameter (P). It has been investigated that dimple size has approximately similar trends with strength properties (both decreasing with P) and inverse trends with ductility properties (ductility increasing with P) as a function of P. This study will help the failure analyst for quality control.
