Effect of thermal stability on the sintering of Cu–Ag bimetallic nanoparticles

By employing classic molecular dynamics simulations, we have systematically investigated the thermal stability of Cu–Ag bimetallic nanoparticles with different configurations, as well as the kinetic behavior of nanoparticles with different thermal stability during the sintering process. Our results show that the trend of thermal stability is Janus > core@shell > alloy and further investigations on the effect of thermal stability on the sintering indicate that nanoparticles with better thermal stability could effectively suppress the formation and disappearance of sintering necks at low temperature, presenting an inherent barrier to the sintering process.
