Effect of Al–Ti–C–B–RE refiner on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al–Cu–Mn alloy
摘要
In this paper, specimens of Al–Cu–Mn alloy were produced by permanent mold casting process. The effect of Al–Ti–C–B–RE refiner addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al–Cu–Mn alloy was investigated. Results show that the grain size gradually decreases with increasing refiner addition. The optimal refining effect is achieved at 1.5 wt.% addition, where the grain size is approximately 48.5 μm, representing to a 50.3% reduction compared to that of the unrefined alloy. The degree of Cu microsegregation decreases with grain refinement, achieving a maximum reduction of 36.7%. The constrained rod casting tests demonstrate that the alloy’s hot tearing susceptibility decreases with grain refinement, with the corresponding index reduced to 8. At a refiner addition of 1.5 wt.%, the ultimate tensile strength and elongation of heat-treated Al–Cu–Mn alloy increases to 418 MPa and 8.6%, respectively.
