CYRENZH Cybersecurity Clinic: Konzept und Erkenntnisse
摘要
Cyberattacks on enterprises, schools and municipalities are steadily increasing. These organizations often lack in-house cybersecurity expertise and may have limited budget for professional security consulting. In these cases, Cybersecurity Clinics can offer support: students help organizations address security issues free of charge while gaining valuable hands-on experience. CYRENZH (Cyber Resilience Network for the Canton of Zurich) is a joint project of the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), which conducted its first clinic projects during fall 2024. This article presents concrete insights from completed projects in different industries, ranging from information- and biotechnology to agriculture. Based on the analysis of nine international clinic models and interviews with all project participants, benefits and challenges are identified, and recommendations are formulated for all phases of a clinic project. The article is aimed at three target groups: universities seeking to establish their own clinics, SMEs interested in understanding how they can benefit from cybersecurity clinics, and students looking for practical tips on how to successfully carry out clinic projects.
