<p>Effective data management is crucial for the success of companies in the digital transformation. They face the challenge of systematically evaluating and optimizing their data management initiatives. This article provides recommendations for action for data management in enterprise systems, based on a&#xa0;specially developed maturity model for data-driven companies, the Data3M. The model integrates findings from existing models, requirements from the literature and expert opinions in order to create a&#xa0;sound basis for deriving practice-oriented recommendations for action. The Data3M enables a&#xa0;comprehensive assessment of data management at five maturity levels and addresses the key aspects in the dimensions strategy, organization, data, and systems. It helps companies to identify and implement the necessary requirements for IT systems to support data-driven decision-making.</p>
