IT – Enabler der Energiewende

The energy system transformation leading from largely hierarchical to highly decentralized structures require comprehensive consideration on how to develop suitable IT solutions. The availability and acceptance of “suitable” application systems are affected by the state of technical development on the one hand and the state of regulation and standardization on the other. However, not the lack of innovative approaches in IT, but rather the lack of suitable ways of combining technologies and components that are already available—and in many cases already proven in other areas— make the necessary low-threshold use of IT more difficult. This article therefore introduce important IT-based concepts and components necessary to overcome the energy system transformation challenges. The article concludes with an outlook on further topics.
