Although voice assistants bring benefits to users and businesses, there is a risk of them being unfair. The technical and social fairness perspectives have so far mainly been considered separate, but it is relevant to consider the socio-technical fairness perspective and identify how it can be achieved for AI-based voice assistants. Based on 12 expert interviews, this article, therefore, provides a framework including five fields of action and corresponding measures companies should address in order to achieve socio-technical fairness of voice assistants. The results build on the concept of socio-technical fairness, considering the specific characteristics and challenges of voice assistants. This article provides companies with a comprehensive overview of measures to ensure the socio-technical fairness of voice assistants.
