Functional Hybrid Wound Scaffolds for Controlled Drug Delivery and Smart Wound Management: A Decade of Progress
摘要
In order to avoid exogenous infections and promote healing, wound scaffolds (WS), an artificial barrier that separates the damaged location from the outside world, are a crucial part of wound care. Traditional wound dressings are widely used, although they have disadvantages such poor moisture retention and biocompatibility. Systems for scaffold-mediated delivery have developed as innovative ways to solve issues and improve patient outcomes. By enabling controlled and targeted drug delivery, they provide benefits in fostering an environment that is favorable for wound healing. The effectiveness of these systems for managing skin wounds can be increased by using functional wound scaffold (FWS) made from hybrid biological macromolecule-based materials. With an emphasis on hybrid biomaterials, methods, and applications developed within the previous decade years, the review seeks to give a broad overview of the most advanced FWS in the field of wound care. Furthermore, we emphasize the development of smart WS, the integration of biological macromolecules in WS. This study clarifies the promising potential of scaffold-mediated drug delivery in enhancing treatment outcomes and optimizing wound care practices through a synthesis of experimental results and recent literature. Furthermore, this review emphasizes the challenges and potential for the future of combining wound detection and therapy.
