Background <p>Hypertension is a chronic disease that worsens with lifestyle habits. In modern society, the population at risk for hypertension is increasing due to aging. In this study, we analyzed whether hypertension can be managed through public Korean medicine projects at public health centers.</p> Methods <p>We compared two groups, one is the participation group (Group 1) and the other is the non-participation group (Group 2). Group 1 registered 23 participants, and Group 2 registered 16 participants. The program conducted a one-hour education class once a week for 6&#xa0;weeks, which included theory education and practice class regarding management of hypertension. Time-dependent data were analyzed in a paired <i>t</i> test, and the difference between the groups was analyzed in an independent <i>t</i> test by Jamovi.</p> Results <p>For the final analysis, 18 in Group 1 and 16 in Group 2 responded. Before and after the program, Group 1 showed positive changes in EQ-5D and lifestyle indicators, but the differences were not statistically significant. Group 1 showed more stable blood pressure (systolic BP 131.3– &gt; 130.1, diastolic BP 74.3– &gt; 74.6) than Group 2 (systolic BP 125.2– &gt; 135.5, diastolic BP 78.2– &gt; 79.4).</p> Conclusions <p>This project demonstrated that the Korean medicine healthcare program was beneficial in stabilizing blood pressure although it did not ensure the lowering effect of BP. Future programs should be implemented by identifying the areas for improvement discussed in this study.</p>

Evaluation of a Korean Medicine Hypertension Program in a Public Health Center: A Retrospective Observational Study

Background
