The synergistic effect of irradiated manure and bio fertilizer on growth and fruit quality of superior seedless grapevines

This research investigated the effect of irradiated cattle municipal manure alone or in combination with microbein bio fertilizer on the morphological and chemical characteristics of Superior Seedless grapevines. The experiment was conducted in a vineyard located in El-Khatatba, Menoufiya governorate, during the years 2021 and 2022 on ten-year-old Superior Seedless grapevines. The manure was irradiated at doses of 0, 5, 10 and 15 kGy and then added to the soil alone or with microbein.
ResultsApplication of microbein and non-irradiated manure significantly increased shoot length and diameter as well as leaf number and area compared to non-irradiated manure alone. In contrast, the yield attributes, cluster and berry characteristics, and leaf mineral content were all largely unaffected. Irradiated manure treatments, either alone or in conjunction with microbein, markedly increased all growth characteristics, including shoot length and diameter, leaf number and area, and the physical and chemical characteristics of the berry, including berry length, diameter, weight and TSS% as well as leaf NPK%, and chlorophyll content, while decreasing acidity. Furthermore, there was a significant increase in the cluster’s length, width, and weight, which led to a rise in the yield per vine. As the radiation dose increased or microbein was added, the promoting effect of applied manure enhanced. The most effective treatment was the application of 15 kGy irradiated manure and microbein, which increased the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium by 14%, 66%, and 11%, respectively, and increased the number of leaves, shoot length, and diameter by 11%. While TSS% increased by 9%, berry weight increased by 20%, and cluster weight and yield increased by 21%, acidity decreased by 25%.
ConclusionsThe best results were obtained by applying 15 kGy of irradiated municipal manure in conjunction with microbein to increase the yield and its constituent parts. This also improved the berry’s physical and chemical characteristics, ensured the best vegetative growth traits, and increased the amount of chlorophyll and mineral elements in the leaves of Superior Seedless grapevines.
