Background <p>Evaluation of verbal capabilities in children with auditory neuropathy after cochlear implantation can help to specify whether this treatment method is appropriate for these children or not.</p> Methods <p>In this comparative study, 16 children with auditory neuropathy who were cochlear implanted were examined and compared with 35 cases as control subjects. The results of speech tests including: Speech Intelligibility Rating, Categories of Auditory Perception scale, and speech in noise tests including: Consonant Vowel in noise, Words-in-Noise Test, and Speech-in-noise were determined in the studied groups and then compared.</p> Results <p>The results of these speech tests were the same in both groups (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05). But the hearing perception scale test score was different in two groups (<i>P</i> = 0.029).</p> Conclusion <p>Therefore, speech abilities in noise in cochlear implanted children with neuropathy is similar to children without neuropathy. Accordingly, use of cochlear implantation method will be associated with successful results even in children with auditory neuropathy.</p>

Background

Methods
