Ebola world nightmare from Congo 1976 to Congo again 2026
摘要
The ongoing 2026 Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has renewed global concern regarding the threat of ebolaviruses. Ebola virus disease is one of the most lethal viral hemorrhagic fevers. Since its first recognition in Congo in 1976, ebola virus disease has evolved from a neglected tropical infection into a major global health challenge, particularly after the devastating 2013–2016 West African epidemic. Ebolaviruses are zoonotic RNA viruses transmitted through direct contact with infected body fluids and are strongly associated with healthcare-associated and community outbreaks. Despite major advances in supportive care, monoclonal antibody therapy, and vaccination strategies, the current Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak highlights continuing gaps in preparedness because no licensed specific vaccines or therapies are currently available. Here, we discuss the history, virology, pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of EVD while exploring the unique challenges posed by the current outbreak.
