Inflammatory nasal polyp in a 10-day-old infant: a rare case report
摘要
Nasal masses in neonates are uncommon and often represent congenital lesions such as encephalocele, dermoid, glioma, or vascular tumors. Isolated inflammatory polyps are extremely rare in this age group.
Case reportWe report a 10-day-old male infant presenting with nasal obstruction due to a pale intranasal mass. CT and MRI revealed a well-defined lesion arising from the septum with no intracranial communication. The mass was excised completely by endoscopic approach with cauterization of its base. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of an inflammatory polyp. The child had an uneventful postoperative recovery and remains asymptomatic at follow-up.
ConclusionAlthough rare, inflammatory polyps should be considered in the differential diagnosis of neonatal nasal masses. Radiological evaluation is crucial to exclude intracranial connection. Complete surgical excision offers excellent outcome.
