<p>Model United Nations (Model UN) simulations have long been hailed as transformative educational experiences, particularly for students pursuing careers in the fields of law, international affairs, or diplomacy. However, their potential to cultivate a diverse array of skills across wider disciplines, and the importance of these disciplines’ participation within UN forums, has often been overlooked. Here, we argue that Model UNs serve as invaluable entry points for students from various academic backgrounds to engage with pressing global issues, develop critical thinking abilities, enhance communication skills, and foster a sense of global citizenship. This ultimately builds intergovernmental literacy and capacity among the wider population, enabling action by a broader suite of societal actors (beyond diplomacy). By critically examining the multifaceted benefits of Model UN participation, this piece advocates for broader recognition and integration of Model UNs across faculties and disciplines within higher education curricula.</p>
