摘要

Purpose

Jambolan is a fruit rich in phenolic compounds and anthocyanins, bioactive compounds that have a positive effect on cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of jambolan on cardiovascular biomarkers and hepatic damage in mice fed a high-fat diet.

Methods

44 mice received a normolipidic diet or high-fat diet for 8 weeks. Afterwards, the animals were divided into four experimental groups (n = 11): normolipidic diet (ND), normolipidic diet with 2% jambolan (ND + J), high-fat diet (HF), high-fat diet with 2% jambolan (HF + J) for 9 weeks.

Results

Jambolan decreased e-selectin and ICAM- 1 concentrations (p < 0.05) when fed with a high-fat diet. Jambolan reduced AST concentration regardless of the diet (p < 0.05) and steatosis degree in the liver.

Conclusion

Jambolan shows cardiac and hepatoprotective effects, against metabolic changes induced by a high-fat diet.
