Adaptation of settled behavior for transforming standard house design by comparing before and after the COVID 19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted nearly every human being on the planet. The scale of occupancy, the design of the built environment (neighborhood), and the spatial organization of the city where people reside will all be impacted by changes in settlement patterns. The goal of the study was to compare behavior before and after the COVID-19 epidemic in order to investigate how behavioral changes and adaptation to community settlement happened. The goal of this qualitative descriptive study is to examine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected community activities and residential patterns in Indonesia at two different geographic scales: the scale of individual homes and the scale of residential environments. The following characteristics are examined on a residential scale: (1) residential space planning; (2) residential circulation system; and (3) residential interior. The building, the open space in the surroundings, accessibility, building, and vegetation are the variables under investigation in the context of the residential environment. The place-centered mapping method is being used in conjunction with observation and interviewing to gather data. This study recommends a change in the design of simple houses from the standard design of simple houses built by the government in the Subsidized House program. This change is the result of the behavioral adaptation process that occurred post-pandemic covid 19 pandemic.
