Construction and validation of interpersonal violence in terms of the hot weather scale for university students

The development and validation of interpersonal violence in terms of hot weather scale is the goal of the current study. The initial pool of items was developed by reviewing the literature and taking into account the results of semi-structured interviews (inductive & deductive approach). After expert opinion and ensuring content validity, 25 Items were finalized for further analysis. To run an exploratory factor analysis, data were collected from 1,000 university students. EFA revealed a unidimensional factor structure with 16 retained items, explaining 80.2% of the variance. The scale’s 0.98 Cronbach’s alpha demonstrates a good level of internal consistency. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed a unidimensional factor structure with 16 items retained on an independent sample of 350 university students. Convergent and divergent validity of the scale was assessed through an independent sample (n = 440). The results showed that there was a strong positive relationship of interpersonal violence in terms of hot weather, with aggression, and a non-significant relationship with eating behavior. The scale can be regarded as a psychometrically reliable tool to assess interpersonal violence in terms of hot weather.
