摘要

Background

Prostate cancer is a significant concern for men due to its impact on quality of life and longevity. The global incidence and mortality rates have been on the rise. While traditional treatments are effective, some patients explore complementary therapies like Ayurveda. This article presents a case of prostate cancer showing complete tumor regression with Ayurvedic oral medications.

Case presentations

A 45-year-old male of South Asian ethnicity (Indian origin), born in Kerala and currently residing in the United States, sought a telephonic consultation regarding urinary symptoms persisting for 6 months. The patient reported dysuria, increased urinary frequency, urgency, and a sensation of incomplete voiding. A prostate biopsy mapping revealed a CA lesion measuring 0.06 cm in the right mid-region of the prostate gland, and Gleason score mapped for 6. Based on the UroPredict staging system, as per the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC), clinical staging was found to be T1. Ayurvedic interventions were administered to correct the Apana Vayu Vaigunya, and the treatment protocol was based on the Ayurvedic principles of ‘Udavartham’ and Mutragranthi.

Conclusions

After 9 months of treatment, a complete regression of the cancer lesions in the right mid region of the prostate gland was observed in the post-biopsy. The patient remains cancer-free after 12 years of treatment. Although Ayurvedic therapy offers a holistic approach, the absence of randomized controlled trials limits the generalizability of our findings and underscores the need for more rigorous scientific validation.
