Objective <p>This study aimed to develop a voice-guided, tap-and-talk educational tool and assess its effectiveness in improving disease-related knowledge and self-management behaviors among older adults following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).</p> Methods <p>A voice-guided tap-and-talk educational tool was designed to address the specific needs of older adults post-PCI. A cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted in cardiovascular wards. The control group received conventional health education using printed manuals, whereas the intervention group received education via the tap-and-talk interactive tool. Outcomes included the level of knowledge regarding coronary heart disease and engagement in self-management behaviors. Chi-squared test and independent-sample t-test, chi-square test and paired t-test, and univariate repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) were conducted accordingly.</p> Results <p>A total of 96 patients completed the study, including 49 in the experimental group and 47 in the control group.No statistically significant differences were observed in baseline characteristics between the groups (<i>p</i> &gt; 0.05). A significant group × time interaction effect was detected for coronary heart disease (CHD)-related knowledge (F = 9.026, <i>P</i> &lt; 0.001). At 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-intervention, the intervention group demonstrated significantly higher self-management behavior scores than the control group (F = 11.607, <i>P</i> &lt; 0.001). Additionally, CHD-related knowledge scores showed a mild downward trend over time in both groups (F = 124.067, <i>P</i> &lt; 0.001). Consistent with the interaction effect mentioned above, the intervention group achieved significantly higher CHD-related knowledge scores than the control group at all three follow-up time points (1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-intervention) (F = 195.188, <i>P</i> &lt; 0.001). Scores in the intervention group remained consistently higher across all domains. The tool received high acceptance ratings from participants (mean score 96.04 ± 2.61).</p> Conclusion <p>The tap-and-talk voice-guided educational tool was effective in enhancing knowledge and promoting self-management behaviors among older adults following PCI. The tool demonstrated a high level of user acceptability within the target population.</p>
