摘要

Physical appearance plays a critical role in young people’s self-esteem and social interactions, with dental health being a significant factor. Malocclusions, though not classified as diseases, have been associated with psychosocial challenges and health complications if left untreated. This narrative review and policy analysis examines strategies to enhance parental motivation in addressing minor malocclusions among children in Germany, highlights the limited coverage of orthodontic treatments under Germany's statutory health insurance (GKV), and proposes public health interventions, such as educational campaigns, financial support measures, and community outreach, to encourage early treatment. Drawing on successful international models, this review proposes that empowering parents through targeted initiatives may improve dental health outcomes, enhance oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and reduce long-term healthcare costs associated with delayed interventions.
