Satisfaction with abortion services and its associated factors among women in Ga North Municipality, Accra, Ghana: a multi-level, cross-sectional study
摘要
Even though efforts have been made to improve abortion care services in Ghana, some health facilities are unable to offer the desired quality of services.
ObjectiveThis study aimed to determine the factors influencing client satisfaction with abortion care services.
MethodologyA quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 12 health facilities involving 190 women who received abortion care services within the past 6 months using medical records. Data were collected using a questionnaire, and analysis was performed with Stata-17. Multilevel ordinal logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with clients’ satisfaction with abortion care. The magnitude of association was estimated by adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with a 95%CI, and a p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant
ResultsIn all, 131 (69%) of participants were satisfied with the abortion services received. In the multilevel regression analysis, women who used public facilities had higher odds of satisfaction with care (aOR = 2.23, 95%CI [1.52–9.58], p = 0.00). The odds of satisfaction with abortion care services provided in an excellently clean facility were greater in both the facility and combined models (aOR 9.6; 95% CI 4.84–53.2) and (aOR 16.1; 95% CI 4.03–82.27), respectively. Good staff attitude showed a significantly positive association with care satisfaction in both individual and facility models. Health facility accessibility was inversely related to abortion care satisfaction among participants.
ConclusionRelevant health stakeholders in the Municipality should institute or intensify strategies to help improve abortion care.
