Aims <p>This study evaluated dengue-related YouTube videos for their educational value and identified lessons for nonendemic regions that may face future suitability. The focus was on assessing reliability and overall information quality to guide preparedness-oriented strategies that prioritize early institutional presence on widely used platforms, collaboration between experts and content creators, and search and distribution tactics that improve the visibility of authoritative content.</p> Methods <p>A cross-sectional content analysis was conducted in May 2025 using five dengue-related search terms. The first 90 results per term were screened in Google Chrome incognito while signed out, yielding 450 videos. After eligibility screening, 107 English-language videos were analyzed. Reliability was assessed with modified DISCERN and quality with the Global Quality Score. Engagement indicators used reproducible metrics, specifically views per day and likes per 1,000 views. Two reviewers scored all videos with third-reviewer adjudication. Nonparametric tests and Spearman correlations were applied with alpha set at 0.05.</p> Results <p>Of 107 videos, 35 showed good reliability (mDISCERN ≥ 3) and 35 achieved high quality (GQS ≥ 4), each 32.7%. News agencies uploaded 47 videos (43.9%), with 87.2% meeting mDISCERN ≥ 3 and 53.2% reaching GQS ≥ 4. Viewer engagement was not significantly correlated with mDISCERN or GQS, while longer duration was positively associated with GQS.</p> Conclusions <p>YouTube contains both reliable and unreliable dengue content. Strengthening evidence-based production and promotion can improve understanding in endemic areas and support preparedness in nonendemic regions projected to become suitable for dengue transmission.</p>
