Introduction <p>Picky eating behavior, traditionally considered a childhood disorder, has increasingly been recognized as a potential concern in adulthood. This study aims to investigate the relationship between eating behaviors, mood states, and obesity indicators in relation to adult picky eating.</p> Methods <p>Data were collected via a web-based survey comprising demographic items, self-reported anthropometric measurements, and validated instruments: the Adult Picky Eating Questionnaire (APEQ), the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire-21 (TFEQ-21), and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The study included 1633 adults (1293 female, 340 male) from Turkey.</p> Results <p>The participants’ mean age was 25.8 ± 10.21 years. Significant positive correlations were observed between the total and subscale scores of the APEQ and the subscale scores of the DASS-21 (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.05). Additionally, the Meal Presentation and Meal Disengagement subscales of the APEQ were significantly positively correlated with the Uncontrolled Eating subscale of the TFEQ-21 (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.05). The total APEQ score was significantly negatively correlated with obesity indices (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.05). Moreover, significant group differences were identified between individuals with low and high levels of picky eating in terms of age, sex, marital status, employment status, income level, body mass index (BMI), conicity index (CI), waist-to-height ratio, number of main meals, and DASS-21 subscale scores (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.001). According to the linear regression analysis, age, marital status, BMI, and scores for depression, anxiety, and stress emerged as significant predictors of APEQ scores (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.001).</p> Conclusion <p>In conclusion, considering the associations between picky eating behavior, mood states, sociodemographic factors, and obesity indices in adults, policies and interventions should be developed to evaluate the implications of picky eating for individuals’ psychosocial functioning and potential health risks. Furthermore, further research employing a multidisciplinary approach is warranted to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the health implications associated with picky eating behavior.</p>
