摘要

Background

The transition to college life can be challenging for female students in Oman, leading to increased stress and mental health issues. This study aims to explore their attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help amid cultural and societal stigmas.

Method

Using convenience sampling, a descriptive correlational study was conducted among 601 female undergraduate students at Sultan Qaboos University. Participants completed an online survey measuring demographic information and attitudes toward seeking psychological help.

Results

The findings indicate a mean attitude score of 26.6 (SD = 5.7), with 41.6% demonstrating a high willingness to seek help. Significant differences were observed based on living arrangements and medical issues (p < 0.05), while age, marital status, academic year, and GPA showed no significant effects.

Discussion

The predominance of positive attitudes underscores the necessity of changing societal perceptions of mental health. Variations in help-seeking behavior based on living situations suggest targeted outreach is vital for fostering support.

Conclusion

Enhancing engagement with mental health resources within educational institutions in Oman is critical. By addressing barriers and promoting mental well-being, universities can better support female students academically and personally.
