Insights into the global landscape of e-cigarette utilization among pregnant women and their offspring from 2015 to 2023
摘要
Recent developments in the field of nicotine and tobacco research specifically vaping in young people have created an increased proliferation and renewed interest in e-cigarette use or vaping among pregnant women. As studies continue to delve into the trends and motivations for e-cigarette use, the widening knowledge gap continues to close as public health and clinical interventions become increasingly aware of this social habit. This review article aims to investigate the epidemiology of e-cigarette usage among pregnant women as well as the envisaged health implications this has on both the mother and the child. The paper highlights significant associations between mental health, sexual status, and dual use of conventional cigarettes while reporting that stigma, family support, and preconceptions of safety as a smoking cessation tool motivate its use. Targeted health promotion interventions focused on improving clinical health outcomes for pregnant women health should incorporate debunking false myths and preconceptions regarding e-cigarette utilization.
