Brief communication: virological response and drug resistance patterns among men who have sex with men in Yaoundé-Cameroon
摘要
Men having sex with men (MSM) in Cameroon are disproportionately affected by HIV. We evaluated virological response and HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) at a community-based organization between 2022 and 2023. Enhanced adherence counselling (EAC) sessions were conducted for all and cases with unsuppressed viral load (VL > 1000 copies/ml) underwent genotyping. From 502 treatment-experienced MSM enrolled, 95 (18.9%) had unsuppressed VL with 82 (86.3%) accepting to participate (ART-duration: 3 [2–5] years; 95.1% (78/82) under Tenofovir + Lamivudine + Dolutegravir). EAC led to 97.6% (80/82) suppression with 1/2 participant harboring HIVDR. High suppression rates and low HIVDR demonstrate the effectiveness of treatment strategies locally; supporting the possibility of global HIV elimination targets among key populations.
