The lived experience of presenteeism among emergency nurses: a qualitative study
摘要
To describe and analyze the intrinsic experiences of emergency nurses regarding presenteeism, providing a basis for addressing this issue.
MethodsThis descriptive phenomenological study employed purposive sampling to select 18 emergency nurses from June to July 2024. Face-to-face, semi-structured interviews were conducted, and data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s seven-step method to identify and refine key themes.
ResultsFour main themes emerged: (1) Insufficient and biased understanding of presenteeism among emergency nurses, (2) Multiple factors triggering presenteeism, (3) Multidimensional impacts of presenteeism, and (4) Coping strategies and interventions for presenteeism.
ConclusionPresenteeism among emergency nurses is a complex, multidimensional issue with significant negative consequences. Nursing administrators should prioritize nurses’ health management, optimize workforce allocation, and provide psychological support and humanistic care to mitigate presenteeism.
