Objective <p>To explore the feelings and experiences of patients with intra-root canal instruments separation, and to provide a reference basis for constructing a management model for such cases in dental practice.</p> Methods <p>A descriptive qualitative study was used to select 17 instrument separation patients who attended the endodontic department of a provincial public dental hospital from January 2023 to December 2023 for semi-structured interviews according to the purposive sampling method, and the directed content analysis method was used to summarize the data and refine the themes.</p> Results <p>Four themes were extracted, shock and anger period (shock, self-denial, anxiety and depression), consultiation period (need for removal of broken file, adjustment of treatment expectations), challenge period (crisis of trust, legal defense of rights, and bouncing from one dentist to another), and acceptance period (cooperating with the treatment, reinforcing oral health care skills, and switching target hospitals).</p> Conclusion <p>Endodontic instrument separation (EIS) triggers a series of psychological reactions in patients, and it is recommended to adopt corresponding communication and coping measures for different psychological stages, which provides an important reference for dentists to deeply understand the needs and psychological reactions of patients.</p>

Objective
