Background <p>This study examined the psychometric attributes of the Arabic version of the University of California–Los Angeles (Ar-UCLA) Shoulder Rating Scale, with the original UCLA scale having been confirmed for evaluating shoulder dysfunction in patients following shoulder surgery. The primary aim of this study was to translate the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) Shoulder Scale into Arabic and to validate this translation to ensure its cultural adaptation for Arabic-speaking populations.</p> Methods <p>The UCLA Shoulder Scale was adapted from English to Arabic. Eighty patients post-rotator cuff repair completed the Ar-UCLA, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire and the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Forty patients retested the UCLA questionnaire within one month to evaluate consistency. Reliability was measured using the intraclass correlation coefficient and Cronbach’s alpha. We used Pearson’s correlation coefficient to examine validity through correlation with the DASH and SF-36 scores.</p> Results <p>The Arabic UCLA (Ar-UCLA) has shown test-retest reliabilities of 0.96 (main scale), 0.77 (pain), and 0.88 (function). There was a strong negative correlation between the Ar-UCLA and DASH scores (<i>r</i>=-0.84, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001). The strongest links between Ar-UCLA and SF-36 were found in the physical (<i>r</i> = 0.656), pain (<i>r</i> = 0.622), and function (<i>r</i> = 0.537) areas.</p> Conclusions <p>The Arabic version of the UCLA Shoulder Scale is a user-friendly questionnaire that efficiently assesses the shoulder function in patients with shoulder disorders. This study validated the instrument’s reliability and validity for Arabic-speaking populations in clinical and research settings.</p>
