Background <p>Violence against women is a social issue that impacts the lives of thousands of women and characterizes a human rights violation, causing a dramatic public health problem.</p> Aim <p>To verify the prevalence and factors associated with violence against women according to reproductive characteristics.</p> Methodology <p>A cross-sectional, population-based study conducted in Vitória, the capital of Espírito Santo, from January to May 2022, with 1,086 women aged 18 years or older. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed, using the Poisson regression model with robust variance estimation.</p> Results <p>Psychological, physical, and sexual violence were associated with the number of children, history of sexually transmitted infections, refusal to use condoms, and number of sexual partners in the previous year. Forced first sexual intercourse and age at coitarche were associated with psychological and sexual violence.</p> Conclusion <p>Results reveal the association between intimate partner violence against women and reproductive characteristics.</p>

摘要

Background

Violence against women is a social issue that impacts the lives of thousands of women and characterizes a human rights violation, causing a dramatic public health problem.

Aim

To verify the prevalence and factors associated with violence against women according to reproductive characteristics.

Methodology

A cross-sectional, population-based study conducted in Vitória, the capital of Espírito Santo, from January to May 2022, with 1,086 women aged 18 years or older. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed, using the Poisson regression model with robust variance estimation.

Results

Psychological, physical, and sexual violence were associated with the number of children, history of sexually transmitted infections, refusal to use condoms, and number of sexual partners in the previous year. Forced first sexual intercourse and age at coitarche were associated with psychological and sexual violence.

Conclusion

Results reveal the association between intimate partner violence against women and reproductive characteristics.
