摘要

Background

Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is an obstetric emergency with a low incidence but high mortality rate. Intra-abdominal haemorrhage following AFE is frequently attributed to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

Case presentation

We report a case of persistent intra-abdominal haemorrhage following hysterectomy for AFE, ultimately diagnosed as hepatic rupture and successfully managed with left-lobe partial hepatectomy.

Discussion and conclusions

Early diagnosis and management of AFE complicated by hepatic rupture and haemorrhage present significant challenges. This case provides reference for the diagnosis and treatment of similar future presentations.
