摘要

Background

The postsurgical rehabilitation process of older patients with hip fractures is prolonged. During rehabilitation, good psychological resilience aids patients in maintaining an optimistic attitude and enhancing their ability to deal with the associated stress. However, the caregiver ability on the psychological resilience of patients is not clear. This study aimed to examine the associated with the caregiver ability on the psychological resilience and the subjective well-being of patients.

Methods

This study is a cross-sectional study and was conducted using a random sampling method. This study recruited 148 older patients with hip fractures. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using the Family Caregiver Ability Inventory, the General Well-Being Scale, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. The data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, independent sample t-test, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis. The mediation effect was tested using the PROCESS Model 4.

Results

The caregiver ability was positively correlated with the psychological resilience and subjective well-being of patients. Linear regression analysis revealed that childlessness, out-of-pocket medical insurance payment method, complications, and higher education level were the main factors influencing the subjective well-being and psychological resilience of patients. Additionally, the subjective well-being of patients affected their psychological resilience. Bootstrap analysis revealed a small but statistically significant indirect association: subjective well-being partially accounted for the cross-sectional relationship between caregiver ability and psychological resilience, explaining approximately 7.3% of the total association.

Conclusion

During postoperative rehabilitation of older patients with hip fractures, psychosocial support must be provided to patients in addition to medical care. Additionally, the caregiver ability must be improved. Furthermore, the psychological resilience of patients must be improved by enhancing their subjective well-being. Comprehensive intervention strategies should be developed to promote the psychological adaptation of patients after surgery and improve their mental health status.
