Abstract <p>In this paper, we investigate the segmental dynamics of the cooperative glass transition process and the torsional-vibrational mobility of monomer units with modified side groups using far IR spectroscopy in the terahertz range (&lt;100 cm<sup>–1</sup>). A model series of polymers was analyzed to explore these phenomena. The interaction between these processes remains poorly understood, particularly at temperatures below the glass transition, which plays a critical role in molecular mobility in polymers. Additionally, we present calculated values for the energy barrier of local segmental motion per mole of monomer units. These results can be compared with the libration barrier of side groups, a key component contributing to the overall barrier for segmental motion.</p>
