Mini-Reviewing the Synthesis of Dihydropyrimidine Derivatives

The synthesis of dihydropyrimidine derivatives, vital for their broad biological activities, has seen significant advancements through the development of efficient and sustainable methods. Recent approaches focus on high-yielding, cost-effective reactions, such as the condensation of aromatic aldehydes with substituted ketones followed by nucleophilic additions under acidic conditions or via green chemistry techniques like microwave irradiation. This review highlights these methodologies, emphasizing their simplicity and economic benefits, which make them ideal for producing biologically active heterocyclic compounds. It summarizes particularly those contributing to the eco-friendly synthesis of dihydropyrimidine-containing derivatives, underscoring their importance in modern organic synthesis.
